Estonia:

-the capital of Estonia is Tallinn, which is its largest city, and also contains its own international airport
-the amphibious assault landing point of Parnu is actually located along the southwestern coast of Estonia. The GDI invasion could have come from there and pushed eastward into the city of Parnu after securing the beach
-Parnu was chosen as a landing point because the Tallinn harbor was mined, and defenses along Tallinn were the thickest, as popular support for Nod was heavily-concentrated around Tallinn
-likewise, Parnu was minimally defended compared to Tallinn
-according to the game, the GDI push into Parnu came from the northeast, and the cutscene of the LCACs approaching the landing point was conducted during a sunrise, so with the sun rising in the east over the land, the invasion launching from the gulf near Parnu works as an early morning invasion based on video reference
-it is warm enough to avoid wearing field jackets, for now

It's Russia's Fault:

-Nod acquired Estonian populous support due to the Russian occupation of the nation, which ended in 1994, with Nod promising a new regime free of the tyranny upheld by the Russian occupation, and a variant method than corrupt capitalism upheld by America
-Nod also regards the United Nations and NATO as failed regimes and false alliances between superpowers, while the rest of the world’s lesser countries are forced to submit to the will of corrupt coalitions

-Estonia possesses anti-governmental and anti-Russian revolutionaries, as well as Russian technology, including tanks, light vehicles, and SAMs
-in actuality, Russian military forces occupied Estonia until 1994, so it is probable to have Estonian military units come into possession of Russian technology, including tanks and SAMs, especially if Nod was operating inside the nation at the time
-due to the occupation and negative feelings directed towards Russia, a U.N. member nation and permanent member of the U.N. Security Council, there is much anti-U.N. and anti-GDI opinions flagrant in Estonia, and therefore, the majority of the country supports the Brotherhood of Nod, including some members of the Estonian government
-however, most Estonians have not taken up arms in support of Nod, as the Nod methodology of violent revolution to instill immediate change has undermined their message (reference Code Pink "shock" methodology undermining their message and portraying the group as radicals, Communists, and anti-American)

-in 1994, under the leadership of Boris Yeltsin, Russia invaded Chechnya
-according to Wikipedia, Russian forces withdrew in 1996 to end the First Chechen War (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_ye…)
-however, fighting later resumed, and continues to this day, with the United Nations in 2003 calling Grozny “the most destroyed city on Earth”

The NATO and European Union Political Situation:

-to be clear, NATO is not a standalone military reporting to a superior organization (like GDI to the United Nations): the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a coalition of member nations which each contribute their own contingent of troops to a given area of operations

-originally, we felt that Estonia would not enter NATO until after the First Tiberium War, and several other war-stricken European and former Soviet Union nations would enter NATO and the United Nations after the First Tiberium War. Until then, they would stand on their own accord
-however, in actuality, Estonia was admitted to the United Nations General Assembly on 17-SEP-1991 following the breakup of the former Soviet Union, to which Russia and its 11 satellite nations were admitted as separate entities into the United Nations
-in 2002, the NATO council invited Estonia to join their ranks
-in 2003, Estonia joined the European Union
-in 2004, Estonia was accepted into NATO during the largest European expansion of the alliance to date

-therefore, at this time, with the rhetorical year being 1995, Estonia is a member of the United Nations, but is not a member of NATO nor the European Union, and considers Russia to be unfriendly due to the recent discontinued Russian occupation of their country

-already, in a move to aid their member nations due to the stricken nature of Estonia, the United Nations has issued evacuation warnings for the major cities of Europe, especially if they are under Nod occupation or in Nod-sympathetic nations, such as Latvia and Lithuania
-Estonian cities are undergoing evacuation prior to Nod's acquisition of them
-willing supporters of Nod are joining their ranks in Estonia

-GDI and some NATO member nation forces such as Germany have already engaged Nod troops in Europe in localized firefights and small-time engagements, not full-blown military operations as of yet
-no Nod tanks have been sighted, but Nod has resorted to guerilla attacks and terrorist activities, the most recent being the Grain Trade Center bombing in Vienna, Austria (reference Command & Conquer opening)
-the most activity between NATO as a united coalition and Nod is taking place in Yugoslavia, as NATO is currently executing Operation: Sharp Guard (1993-1996), "providing maritime enforcement of arms embargos and economic sanctions against the Federated Republic of Yugoslavia," according to the Wikipedia article on NATO

-"The first NATO military operation caused by the conflict in the former Yugoslavia was Operation Sharp Guard, which ran from June 1993-October 1996. It provided maritime enforcement of the arms embargo and economic sanctions against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. On 28 February 1994, NATO took its first military action, shooting down four Bosnian Serb aircraft violating a U.N.-mandated no-fly zone over central Bosnia and Herzegovina. Operation Deny Flight, the no-fly-zone enforcement mission, had begun a year before, on 12 April 1993, and was to continue until 20 December 1995. NATO air strikes that year helped bring the war in Bosnia to an end, resulting in the Dayton Agreement, which in turn meant that NATO deployed a peacekeeping force, under Operation Joint Endeavor, first named IFOR and then SFOR, which ran from December 1996 to December 2004. Following the lead of its member nations, NATO began to award a service medal, the NATO Medal, for these operations." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO)

-therefore, at this time, NATO has deployed a coalition of troops to maintain peace during a war in Bosnia and the Yugoslavian province
-however, NATO's relationships with nearby nations surrounding the former Yugoslavia and in other locations where continued military action against Nod is continuing are being threatened by Nod military actions

-Nod considers the United Nations and the very foundation organization of NATO to be organizations corrupted by Western influences and seeks to dissolve them
-Nod also considers the European Union and the Organization of African Unity to be false alliances, as member nations must provide for their own defense, not each other's protection, and usually do not stand united on certain issues, whereas otherwise they should be
-therefore, dissolving the United Nations and the NATO alliance would mean no resistance to bringing about change in Europe and Africa, as Nod has already influenced specific members of the EU and OAU
-to bring about the dissolution of the United Nations, which has been seen as the greater coalition between NATO and the U.N., the Global Defense Initiative must be eradicated or incapacitated first, as NATO will likely fall shortly thereafter since many members of the United Nations are also members of NATO

-in some cases, NATO member nations’ troops account for the same military personnel in the United Nations and even GDI (a soldier in the United States Army can also serve as a NATO trooper as part of a NATO operation, and in some cases, NATO troopers are serving as GDI personnel)
-however, seeing as how NATO is a political alliance, Nod will focus its attacks on NATO to the realm of politics, breaking up the alliance by absorbing member nations one-by-one through military action on the ground and political influence in the parliaments and debate houses of member nations’ governments via sympathetic supporters operating inside the governments of members of the NATO alliance (example: a U.S. Senator of the “United We Stand” party)

-the collapse and GDI and the breakup of the alliances between NATO will allow for the breakup of subsequent established alliances and pave the way for total realization of Nod's directives at deposing governments deemed to be corrupt, thereby allowing Nod to achieve global control under its directives of imposing a new world order, which embraces the qualities of Tiberium as being the key to the future prosperity of all mankind

-the evolution of mankind through Tiberium has not yet been considered, as little is known of the harmful or mutative properties of Tiberium
-at this time, GDI is unaware of Nod's directives at controlling the global Tiberium reserve, as Tiberium is radically new and unrecognized for its complete value as a form of income and military reserve, in addition to its ability to restructure human DNA, though Tiberium has been mined and processed in the past, and its economic benefits have been realized, just not to their full potential
-also at this time, GDI does not yet realize the full potential of Nod, and the United Nations is passing Nod off as simply another terrorist group like the Palestinian Liberation Organization or Abu Sayyaf

-on the flipside, Nod is deadly serious and dedicated to their goal of eliminating GDI

-for now, combat involving specific NATO member nations and the United Nations against the Brotherhood of Nod is localized between Nod troops and supporters against European-based United Nations GDI forces, U.N. peacekeepers, European NATO forces, and partisans and loyalists or rebels from both sides exchanging fire with Nod forces in both Europe and Africa

-remember that NATO is an organization of nations: it is not a standalone military, but rather a coalition of militaries on a given operation
-therefore, soldiers of the United States Army and British Army can form a “NATO” contingent in a given hotspot, such as Bosnia, but will not be extracted from their own armies
-example: an American soldier can serve as part of a NATO operation and be addressed as a NATO trooper, or an American soldier can serve as part of a United Nations operation alongside U.N. peacekeepers and avoid being absorbed into the U.N.

-since Nod is overwhelming European and African GDI and NATO forces, with Nod achieving great sweeping success in Africa, there is a need for an outside commitment from United States’ and British GDI forces
-however, the American and British ambassadors to the U.N. are refusing to deploy GDI troops until the Nod threat can be actualized as "credible" (highlights the aspect of political interference in military matters and excessive "red tape")
-with certain special units reporting directly to the United Nations Chain-of-Command independent of influence from the member nations, namely the 101st under General Mark Sheppard's direct command, the deployment of the 101st Eagle Commandos Division is legitimized
-take note that while the "European Union" was founded in 1993, it will not be formally addressed until towards the end of the First Tiberium War, likely around the invasion of Belgrade, Yugoslavia
-every European Union and Organization of African Unity member must provide for its own defense
-also take note that NATO can conduct operations independent of U.N. approval, despite resistance from the French

-"The United States, the United Kingdom, and most other NATO countries opposed efforts to require the U.N. Security Council to approve NATO military strikes, such as the action against Serbia in 1999, while France and some others claimed that the alliance needed U.N. approval. The U.S./U.K. side claimed that this would undermine the authority of the alliance, and they noted that Russia and China would have exercised their Security Council vetoes to block the strike on Yugoslavia, and could do the same in future conflicts where NATO intervention was required, thus nullifying the entire potency and purpose of the organization." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO)

-...this may require a lengthy explanation. Hell, it may even need its own story…then again, we may be able to explain away all of this during the beginning of Op Team Delta's Latvian operation to neutralize the SAM Sites during the GDI/Nod Alliance Breakdown sequence before the mission
-that actually sounds like the best time to explain the European Union, Organization of African Unity, NATO, the U.N., and the geopolitical situation of the beginning of the Tiberium War

The Organization of African Unity Political Situation:

-a similar situation of increased Nod activity is also being witnessed in Africa

-the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was the former alliance between African nations (with the exception of Morocco, which left in 1984 after the Western Sahara was recognized as a member nation). Yet despite their withdrawal, Morocco still enjoys member status
-thereby, all African nations, with the exception of Morocco, are unified under the Organization of African Unity
-the African Union (AU) was recognized on July 9, 2002 after the Organization of African Unity was disbanded on the same day and reorganized as the African Union
-even today, the African Union faces medical challenges including AIDS and other outbreaks of disease, constant humanitarian crises and human rights violations, as well as the handling of many civil wars running rampant across the continent

-"One of the objectives of the AU is to "promote peace, security, and stability on the continent".[20] Among its principles is 'Peaceful resolution of conflicts among Member States of the Union through such appropriate means as may be decided upon by the Assembly'.[21] The primary body charged with implementing these objectives and principles is the Peace and Security Council. The PSC has the power, among other things, to authorise peace support missions, to impose sanctions in case of unconstitutional change of government, and to "take initiatives and action it deems appropriate" in response to potential or actual conflicts. The PSC is a decision-making body in its own right, and its decisions are binding on member states." (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_…)

-however, seeing as how the African Union did not yet exist until after the Tiberium War, Nod has therefore criticized the goals of the Organization of African Unity:

-the OAU's goals are:

• “To promote the unity and solidarity of the African states and act as a collective voice for the African continent. This was important to secure Africa's long-term economic and political future. Years of colonialism had weakened it socially, politically, and economically.
• The OAU was also dedicated to the eradication of all forms of colonialism, as, when it was established, there was still a number of states that had not yet won their independence or were minority-ruled. South Africa and Angola were two such countries. The OAU proposed two ways of ridding the continent of colonialism. Firstly, it would defend the interests of independent countries and help to pursue those of still-colonized ones. Secondly, it would remain neutral in terms of world affairs, preventing its members from being controlled once more by outside powers.
• Ensure that all Africans enjoyed human rights.
• Raise the living standards of all Africans.
• Settle arguments and disputes between members – not through fighting but rather peaceful and diplomatic negotiation.”
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organiza…)

-however, the OAU has received staunch criticism:

-“At the time of the OAU's disbanding, 53 out of the 54 African states were members; Morocco left on 12 November 1984 following the admission of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic as the government of Western Sahara in 1982.

The organization was widely derided as a bureaucratic "talking shop" with little power. It struggled to enforce its decisions, and its lack of armed force made intervention exceedingly difficult. Civil wars in Nigeria and Angola continued unabated for years, and the OAU could do nothing to stop them.

The policy of non-interference in the affairs of member states also limited the effectiveness of the OAU. Thus, when human rights were violated, as in Uganda under Idi Amin in the 1970s, the OAU was powerless to stop them.

The Organization was praised by Ghanaian former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan for bringing Africans together. Nevertheless, in its 39 years of existence, critics argue that the OAU did little to protect the rights and liberties of African citizens from their own political leaders, often dubbing it as a “Dictators' Club”  or “Dictator's Trade Union.”

The OAU was, however, successful in some respects. Many of its members were members of the UN, too, and they stood together within the latter organisation to safeguard African interests – especially in respect of lingering colonialism. Its pursuit of African unity, therefore, was in some ways successful.”
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organiza…)

-the presence of these continued civil wars, the lack of universal civil rights, continued degraded conditions as a result of civil wars and strife-sometimes with outside support from non-African nations-and the effects of the influence of America and other nations in the more modernized nations of Africa, such as South Africa, and especially the Organization's member nations' association with the United Nations has brought about much criticism from members of the Brotherhood of Nod, as well as Islamic  Islamic extremists and other religious figures seeing the Western influences as being an infringement upon their societies
-an “extremist” is also a “jihadist” or a follower of Islam who promotes violent actions, while a “fundamentalist” does not condone violence and follows by a strict code of peace
-together, Nod and their aligned movements have denounced the Organization of African Unity, being that the rhetorical year is 1995, as being an ineffective organization unable to meet the promises of bringing about peace to the peoples of the African continent, as well as having been corrupted by the influence of the United Nations
-Nod is also criticizing the Organization of African Unity for failing to exercise its power to stop the many civil wars running rampant across the continent, and will thereby justify its invasions of the several African nations consumed by strife as actions meant to bring about peace to the warring tribes
-therefore, the Brotherhood has seen fit to depose the Organization of African Unity in favor of establishing its own unified organization with the goal of bringing about peace to the disenfranchised peoples of the African continent, and to halt all civil war

Four Fronts:

-in truth, Nod is potentially fighting a war on four fronts: the United Nations, the European Union, the Organization of African Unity, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
-however, seeing as how the OAU is largely divided, taking Africa may come easier than predicted
-taking Europe also poses a slight higher challenge than Africa since Europe is more modernized, but seeing as how several nations in Europe have already fallen to Nod, the challenge is not as imposing
-as soldiers in the United Nations and NATO are interchangeable, the United Nations and NATO can be considered one equal force
-at this time, the nations of NATO are not equally contributing troops against the Brotherhood (the British and Germans are involved in fighting against Nod, but the Americans are not) and are therefore lesser of a threat than GDI
-therefore, the Brotherhood of Nod is pitted directly against the United Nations and some members of NATO, but largely, the United Nations poses the greatest military threat since the United Nations commands its own independent body of troops: the Global Defense Initiative (whereas NATO member nations’ military forces are composed of independent member nations’ militaries, such as the U.S. Army, British Army, or German Army)

-Nod may perhaps end up standing against the European Union if the EU can effectively unite against Nod
-with Nod having triggered uprisings in several key nations in Europe, effectively dividing control of the country, the European Union is divided, and if the United Nations can be defeated, then NATO’s individual member nations will surely fall, especially if they choose to remain uninvolved in the Tiberium War

The Global Defense Initiative Must Fight:

-at this time, the United Nations' Global Defense Initiative is the last hope for the European Union, the Organization of African Unity, the political foundation of the NATO alliance, and members of the United Nations who are under siege by Nod
-GDI’s overall goal is to disrupt the Brotherhood long enough to provide the European Union enough time to rally its defenses and unite as one force
-giving the EU enough time to recover will relieve the pressure off of NATO elements battling against the Brotherhood
-with the EU effectively "revived" NATO will be able to revitalize and motivate itself to fight Nod alongside GDI
-from there, Africa can be further liberated by support provided to the Organization of African Unity from NATO and GDI
-all this will be for naught if GDI fails to liberate nations in Europe which have fallen to the Brotherhood, for as long as Nod controls individual nations, the individual nations will focus on liberating their own borders before contributing to the liberation of their allies, and this is exactly the kind of division Kane seeks to create before consequently conquering his target nations to unify them under the banner of the Brotherhood

-effectively, Nod is operating through "divide and conquer," by dividing nations from the European Union and the Organization of African Unity before conquering them, breaking them off from their larger political organizations like pieces to a puzzle and fitting them to the framework of Nod

Nod Takes Estonia:

-as part of the Nod campaign to acquire Estonia, anti-governmental forces and militias have grounded the Estonian Air Force by attacking and annihilating their airfield and destroying all aircraft, clearing the way for spurning the coup de tat in a major terrorist action committed upon Estonia by the Brotherhood of Nod and their supporters
-there have been reports of several bombings of Estonian military barracks and bases, and the capital city of Tallinn has been invaded by Nod troops and pro-Nod militiamen in a well-coordinated chess-piece maneuver
-the governmental compound has been overrun, and the Prime Minister and legitimate Estonian government have been exiled not into Russia but to the northern coast, where NATO forces have evacuated them to Helsinki, Finland
-at this time, Nod forces are working to establish a surface-to-air missile defense system to protect them from potential air assaults, as well as to secure the remaining cities of Estonia, with the two major cities of Tallinn and Tartu already under Nod control
-the numerous SAM systems left behind in Estonia by the Russians have allowed Nod unprecedented access to surface-to-air missile capabilities

-the United Nations military campaign to retake Estonia looks to be extensive and difficult, and will be a significant test of the Global Defense Initiative not only because GDI will be operating inside nations aligned with the U.N., as well as third-party nations otherwise not aligned, but because the invasion of Estonia is GDI's first major military operation to go on the offensive against Nod (the Great Britain campaign was a retaliatory attack for Nod's strike on Blue Shield)

Fuck Politics! It's War!:

-remember that GDI fights the cells and organization of Nod, not the nation-state, for the nation-state of Nod has not been recognized and does not yet legitimately or formally exist
-in part, Nod exists only as a secretive, yet organized and resourceful militarized organization open to acceptance from all disenfranchised peoples, especially those suffering "under the oppression of corrupt imperialistic superpowers"
I've been debating posting the geopolitical situation of the Tiberium War for some time.

Now I've decided to do it, concluding that none of my ideas are being threatened.

For those who know nothing about Command & Conquer, a war is being fought over a crystal-like element called Tiberium, which, when refined, will lead to unprecedented wealth.

A terrorist army, the Brotherhood of Nod (in red) wants to monopolize it and establish their own form of global ruling under the guise that Tiberium will grant unimaginable benefits to humanity, but their terrorist attacks undermine their message.

On the other hand, the United Nations and its army, the Global Defense Initiative, has been charged with making sure Tiberium's benefits are distributed evenly to the world, and are also tasked with eliminating the Brotherhood of Nod.

This document describes the geopolitical situation of world affairs during the onset of the First Tiberium War, and describes the impact of Nod on such entities as the European Union, the Organization of African Unity (prior to its dissolution), NATO, and the United Nations.

For the record, this document describes the beginnings of the original Command & Conquer.

These ideas are by my personal interpretation of facts of the era, circa 1995, coupled with actual occurrences in Command & Conquer.

Hopefully, these won't be too confusing.
